Our mission
About Learn ChiTonga
A modern home for the language of Binga and the Zambezi valley.
ChiTonga is spoken by the BaTonga people on both sides of the Zambezi River – in Binga, Kariba, Hwange and across the border in Zambia. It is one of Zimbabwe's 16 official languages.
For too long, learners have had very few resources: no apps, few books and almost nothing online. Learn ChiTonga changes that – a free, mobile-first platform with a Tonga–English dictionary, audio pronunciation, traditional stories and ZIMSEC past papers.
Who is it for?
- Children and students preparing for Grade 7 and O-Level ChiTonga.
- Teachers looking for notes, papers and stories for class.
- BaTonga in the diaspora who want their children to speak the language.
- NGO workers, tourists and visitors to Binga and Lake Kariba.
